Privacy and Security

AngelShares is committed to keeping your personal details safe and secure, and to protecting your privacy online, under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998. AngelShares Limited is registered as a data controller with Information Commissioner’s Office. Our nominated representative is Sarah Gee.

Whenever we collect information from you, we endeavor to make it clear why we are asking for that info and what we will do with it. For instance, we may collect information from site visitors to help us understand more about our users and ensure that we’re providing you with the best possible service. Occasionally we may share anonymised data (information which cannot be linked to a personal record) with Third Parties for research or analysis; because the information is anonymised, we promise that your privacy and security will not be breeched by this act.

When signing up for our newsletter, registering for an account or allocating AngelShares to a particular project, you will be asked a series of data protection questions. Please read these carefully; they are important, not only for keeping your details safe but also because they will dictate what information on the chosen project(s) we are able to share with you.

When you decide to support a project featured on AngelShares we will also ask you if we can share your contact details with the organizer of that project so that they can update you on progress, send you your reward(s), and tell you about their future plans.

If the project is based in Scotland, or has been posted by a Scottish-based organisation, we will also ask you if you would consent to your contact details being shared with Arts & Business Scotland, our partners north of the border. They may wish to send you information about events and initatives in Scotland, and we would encourage you to opt in to this service.

Although all information we pass on will be subject to the rigours of the Data Protection Act 1998, we have no direct control over the use of that information by the organisation or individual and so cannot be responsible if that individual or organisation misuses that information. If you believe that this has happened, please contact the organisation or individual in the first instance.

The transaction to purchase AngelShares is handled by our partners Google Checkout, a service which has been certified as compliant with Level One of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards.  No details of your credit card or payment systems are held on the AngelShares server.

Personal information about donors and organisations/individuals offering projects is accessible to AngelShares staff and contractors, and to Third Parties who help us to process data, such Google Checkout. All information will kept securely in line with the Data Protection Act 1998.

AngelShares will not share your personal information with other Third Parties without your express permission, except in situations where we believe that the law requires it. We reserve the right to share personal data in order to investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, violations of AngelShares’ Terms of Use, or otherwise as required by the law.

The AngelShares website is hosted behind a firewall. However, no data transmitted over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so any information which you submit is done at your own risk.
